Special Session IV: Computational Intelligence of Automatic Optical Inspection
This special session aims to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among researchers interested in Automatic Optical Inspection and AI for Industrial Applications. The session will focus on various aspects of computational intelligence in industrial inspection and medical image applications, including but not limited to:
1. Multi-Sensor Image Processing for Industrial Inspection and Medical Image Applications2. Deep Learning based Image Recognition for Industrial Inspection and Medical Image Applications
3. Image processing for Industrial Inspection and Medical Image Applications

This special session aligns with the core themes of ICCCI 2024, addressing the integration of computational intelligence in solving real-world challenges. By exploring applications in industrial inspection and medical imaging, we aim to contribute to the collective intelligence of the conference.

Chuan-Yu Chang (Senior Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan, in 2000. From 2009 to 2011, he was the Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Yunlin University of Science and Technology (YunTech), Taiwan. From 2011 to 2019, he was the Dean of the Research and Development, the Director of the Incubation Center for Academia-Industry Collaboration and Intellectual Property, YunTech. From 2018 to 2022, He was the Deputy General Director of the Service Systems Technology Center, Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan. He holds the position of Distinguished Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at YunTech. Additionally, he serves as the Chief Digital Officer of the Service Systems Technology Center at ITRI.
Dr. Chang has authored or coauthored more than 300 publications in journals and conference proceedings in the fields of computational intelligence and their applications to medical image processing, automated optical inspection, emotion recognition, and pattern recognition. He is an IET Fellow, a Life Member of IPPR and TAAI. He has held various leadership roles, including the Program Co-Chair of TAAI 2007, CVGIP 2009, 2010–2019 International Workshop on Intelligent Sensors and Smart Environments (ISSE), and the third International Conference on Robot, Vision and Signal Processing (RVSP 2015). He was the General Co-Chair of 2012 International Conference on Information Security and Intelligent Control, 2011–2013 Workshop on Digital Life Technologies, CVGIP 2017,2021,2022, NCWIA 2018–2023, ICS 2018, and TAAI 2023. From 2015 to 2017, he was the Chair of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Tainan Chapter and the Representative for Region 10 of IEEE SPS Chapters Committee. He received the National Award for Distinguished Contribution to Industry-Academia Cooperation from Ministry of Education, the Outstanding Electrical Engineering Professor Award from the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering, Taiwan in 2021, recognition in the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University USA in 2022-2023, and The Outstanding Engineering Professor Award from CIE in 2023. He served as the President of the Chinese Image Processing and Pattern Recognition Society (IPPR) from 2020 to 2022. IPPR is the largest artificial intelligence society in Taiwan.

Chien-Chou Lin is working as a Professor and the chair at the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, Taiwan. He received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in computer science from National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 2004 and 1994, respectively, and his B.S. degree in computer science from Tatung Institute of Technology, Taipei, Taiwan, in 1992. He has been an Assistant Processor of the Computer Science and Information Engineering Department, at Shu-Te University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, since 2004. His research interests lie in robotics, computer vision, object recognition, shape matching, point cloud semantic segmentation, and machine learning. He was the Best Paper Awardee of the 2023 IEEE 6th International Conference on Knowledge Innovation and Invention (IEEE ICKII 2023) in 2023. He serves as a reviewer on several conferences and journals, including IEEE Sensors Journal, IEEE Access, Robotica, IEEE ICKII2023, TAAI2023, IWAIT 2024, etc.
